child-care
Ms. Freitas;
I have not received as response from you with regards to my communication dated June 7, 2005.
A lot of the parents at Sycamore Canyon have been
speaking to each other regarding the changes you are planning in
implementing in the
fall. It is important that we have a say and that the
questions raised by the memorandum
issued by your office be addressed.
Please advise when an evening meeting can be scheduled.
Sincerely,
Lise Gurgiolo

Subject RE: CVUSD
Sycamore Canyon child-care
Ms. Freitas;
The facts are:
Sycamore
Canyon is one of the most impacted schools in terms of
enrollment size and therefore brings in a large income for the district
There is no decline in enrollment at Sycamore
There has been a waiting list each year for
the Child-care Program
There is still an a.m. and a p.m. kindergarten at Sycamore
Pat Lightfoot did not ask for a transfer
CVUSD has chosen to move
3 of the 4 Leaders at Sycamore
The students and staff have been moved to a different
area of the
Sycamore campus each year since the inception of the school
As it stands, many of the parents, as well as their children are tired of the many changes each year.
My family has been with the CVUSD Child-care Program since 1977. In the last seven years, I have never seen such disregard
to the feelings of the staff and the families that were entrusted to you.
One of the most important reasons that this program is so successful is that the children have been
given the opportunity, in the past, to grow in a stable, loving, nurturing environment. Children thrive when there is continuity.
There has been no continuity at Sycamore as far as the
Child-care facilities and now you are changing the staff. I have
not heard one positive comment from any parent or child enrolled at Sycamore...only questions based on your decision to make
changes, which many people, myself included, feel are unwarranted.

Subject RE: CVUSD Sycamore Canyon care
Dear Lise,
Thank you for sharing your concerns with
me regarding the Child Care change of staff at Sycamore Canyon Elementary School. Transitions
and changes are difficult. As stated in my letter due to declining enrollment and budgetary concerns within Child
Care, throught out the district, we have had to make changes at several of our centers. I am confident that the Sycamore Canyon staff
will continue to provide quality Child Care in a safe and enriched environment.

Subject : Sycamore Canyon Child-care
Dear Ms. Freitas-
I am very disturbed by the District memorandum I received yesterday with regards to the staffing
at Sycamore Canyon
child-care. It is extremely distressing to me that Pat Lightfoot has been moved to Maple
Elementary School in the fall.
Sycamore Canyon's
child-care has been in a state of flux since the inception of the school. Aside from the fact that our children have been moved
from a beautiful facility to portables without running water and no bathrooms, each year the child-care rooms are located on a different area
of the campus. The one piece of continuity
that is so very important to the Sycamore Canyon Child-care Staff,
the students and the parents is the knowledge that the staff knows and cares about our children.
These men and woman are not just caretakers, but become an important part of our families.
The knowledge that my child is with someone that
is both familiar and in tune with my child's needs and concerns is
of the utmost importance. I feel safe knowing that people like Pat Lightfoot are watching out for my child.
A move to keep things fresh, or to shake things up is detrimental to the wonderful Child-care Program
offered by our school district. Parents and children alike thrive on the familiarity and the relationships that are cultivated
by knowing that the same staff is going to be at the
school each year. The District's decision to shake up the staffing
at Sycamore
Canyon has caused
tears of sadness and frustration by not only the child, but the parents as well.
Pat Lightfoot is needed a great deal at Sycamore Canyon Child-care.
Sincerely,
Lise Gurgiolo
